THE FARM
Terre Noire Farms adjoins the Prairie Ridge at Terre Noire site owned by the Nature Conservancy, and is just down the road from Terre Noire Preserve, principally owned by the Arkansas Department of Natural Heritage. The Nature Conservancy assists Terre Noire Farms's efforts to preserve and restore our Blackland Prairie through prescribed burning and removing non-native grass species. Terre Noire Farms is located less than 5 miles west of the main Arkadelphia intersection.
Terre Noire Farms is owned and operated by Eric and Erica Hughes. We started raising Tamworth pigs in early 2016. We had purchased the land a few years before and had talked for years about our "future" farm. It wasn't until our son said something to the effect of "Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it." That was all it took. Within two weeks we had our first set of registered Tamworth breeding stock. Two gilts, Scarlet and Ava, and a boar named Duke. We now have six registered sows and a new boar, Baron. We strive to use farming techniques that protect the environment, give the best possible life to the animals, and provide healthy food to nourish our communities.
Our farm is always evolving. Our life experiences have taught us to always be thinking about new and better ways to achieve what we are trying to accomplish. In addition to the pigs we have added to the farm a few laying hens, domestic ducks for pest control and an apple orchard filled with heirloom varieties.
